Healthcare system transforms online services into a friendly digital experience

Aurora Health Care is a regional integrated system with 15 hospitals, more than 150 clinics and 70 pharmacies serving 30 communities in Wisconsin and Illinois. Facing an on-premises environment that couldn’t support the speed, scalability, or consumer-focused experience it wanted, Aurora set out to simplify online access to care—making it easy to find a doctor, schedule appointments, and pay bills—by creating a cross-functional digital team that combined IT stability with marketing speed-to-market.

Aurora migrated its websites to Microsoft Azure (using Cloud Services, Azure SQL Database, Storage, CDN and Sitecore on a heterogeneous stack) and adopted DevOps practices with tools like TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, GitHub and ARM templates. The move cut Sitecore deployment time from about eight–nine hours to under 20 minutes, reduced infrastructure costs through pay-as-you-go scaling, and helped drive a 500% increase in appointments scheduled online, while enabling ongoing, rapid innovation.
