HarperCollins - Customer Case Study

HarperCollins Publishers needed faster, broader insight into consumer research to make better marketing and acquisition decisions. Previously the company relied on a third-party that delivered quarterly summaries to a small group, leaving most staff without direct access to data and slowing decision cycles. To stay competitive and minimize rollout risk, HarperCollins sought an affordable, globally accessible BI solution that employees could use themselves.

Working with Microsoft partner Adatis, HarperCollins deployed a cloud BI system on Windows Azure in two weeks using SQL Server, automated ETL and a web-based reporting app. Staff can now run and customize reports on demand, turning months-long audience analysis into weekly decisions, improving services to authors, and driving a cultural shift toward data-led decisions. The cloud solution also boosted agility and scalability while saving about $200,000 versus a traditional deployment.
