Global leader in operational intelligence speeds innovation with the Microsoft cloud platform

OSIsoft, a global leader in operational intelligence, provides the PI System that connects real-time sensor data across thousands of sites and industries. With nearly a billion data streams and customers that require both on‑premises continuity and cloud-scale capabilities, OSIsoft faced the challenge of delivering massively scalable, reliable services and faster updates while maintaining backward compatibility and hybrid deployments.

To address this, OSIsoft built cloud offerings on Microsoft Azure—adopting Visual Studio Online for development and Azure Service Fabric (with Event Hubs, Azure Machine Learning, Data Factory and Power BI) for durable state, high-throughput ingestion, and analytics. The team rewrote a cloud‑native historian in under 10 months, migrated development to the cloud, and realized exponential scalability, streamlined development (an estimated 24 months saved), simplified ALM with a faster release cadence, and strong hybrid support for existing on‑premises customers.
