Global cardiac leader gains new insight to improve care, increase efficiency, and facilitate research

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is a leading Canadian cardiac care, research, and teaching centre that treats more than 100,000 patients a year. Leaders struggled to get timely, consistent insight from siloed systems and disparate BI tools, which limited their ability to maximize procedure-room utilization, identify clinical and cost variations, and measure the impact of new practices and products.

UOHI implemented Picis Envision, a Power BI and SQL Server–based solution hosted on Azure with Azure Active Directory and row-level security, to deliver real-time, role-specific dashboards. The new analytics cut reporting time from days to minutes, increased procedure-room utilization by 8%, enabled rapid drill-downs into clinical and cost variation, improved scheduling and financial oversight, and created a platform to expand access and explore predictive planning for better patient care.
