GELSENWASSER AG, a large German utility providing water, energy, sewage and IT services, faced growing inefficiencies from paper-based workflows across administrative and field operations. Rapid company growth and limited IT capacity made tasks such as damage reporting and site inspections slow, error-prone and duplicative, with forms scanned multiple times and field notes often illegible in bad weather.

The IT team implemented Microsoft Power Apps and the Power Platform—integrated with Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Teams and Power Automate—to create offline-capable apps for facility management, groundwater measurement and construction inspections. Built in-house and deployed rapidly, the apps automated data capture and PDF generation, reduced delays and duplicate reports, lowered administrative overhead, and enabled departments to develop solutions themselves; next steps include wider Dynamics 365 adoption and AI-enhanced process optimization.
