Case Study: Mapwize achieves rapid growth and reduced server management with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Mapwize Case Study

French startup runs open-source map solution in the cloud to support rapid growth

Mapwize is a French startup (founded 2014) that builds indoor mapping for malls, offices, hospitals, and campuses. After pivoting from an early push-notification idea, the company faced rapid-growth challenges: a bloated monolithic web app that was hard to manage, slow to deploy, difficult to cache and scale, and costly to customize for different customers.

Mapwize rebuilt on Microsoft Azure—using App Service, CDN, and Azure Functions—to split its platform into five independent services (public site, API, map delivery, short URLs, and admin), running Node.js and a preprocessed shortest-path engine. The move cut costs by sharing resources, sped deployments, reduced server management, improved performance and reliability, increased developer productivity, and (with BizSpark Plus support) helped win major customers and accelerate growth.
