Case Study: FortisAlberta achieves safer, more productive safety planning with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the FortisAlberta Case Study

FortisAlberta prioritizes worker safety on Power Platform, boosting productivity and earning key tech award

FortisAlberta, a Canadian electricity provider, needed a safer and more efficient way to manage injury prevention plans for its field crews. Its paper-based process was slow, hard to track, and prone to errors, lost forms, and poor-quality meeting recordings. FortisAlberta turned to Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power BI, to digitize and streamline this critical safety workflow.

Microsoft Azure helped FortisAlberta build a mobile IPP solution that works online and offline, stores data in Azure SQL Database, processes audio through Azure App Service, and saves recordings in Azure Blob Storage. The result was faster access to site safety information, real-time visibility for headquarters, less manual admin work, and stronger reporting through Power BI. The app is now used by more than 500 field staff and processes about 120 IPPs per day, and the solution earned FortisAlberta a Canada’s Safest Employers award for innovative safety technology.
