Case Study: nextmarkets achieves real-time, market-speed trading and scalable, cost-effective development with Microsoft Azure (Azure DocumentDB/Cosmos DB)

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the nextmarkets Case Study

FinTech company nextmarkets moves in real time with Azure DocumentDB

nextmarkets is a German fintech founded by brothers Dominic and Manuel Heyden that offers an online education and trading platform where professional coaches annotate charts, execute live trades, and users can watch, simulate, and place trades themselves. The team needed a development platform that could ingest and process large volumes of high‑frequency market data with low latency, continuously update feeds and charts, support many demo and live accounts, and remain easy and cost‑effective to develop and operate.

They built the platform on Microsoft Azure and Azure DocumentDB (now Azure Cosmos DB), using managed partitioning, automatic indexing, stored procedures, and parallel queries to deliver millisecond responses and update thousands of products up to four times per second. The fully managed service eliminated DBA overhead, accelerated agile development, provided flexible scaling and pricing, and enabled a real‑time, scalable trading and coaching product that launched in 2014 and continues to grow.
