Financial Services Major Prepares for the Future with Microsoft Azure, Bets on Hybrid Cloud

ICICI Lombard, one of India’s largest private-sector general insurers, faced a classic infrastructure challenge: how to meet large, infrequent peak loads (for example fiscal-year spikes) without expanding data center footprint or budget. Manual provisioning for development and testing created time, resource and cost pressures, and the 2013 IT strategy identified the need for greater agility and improved SDLC maturity while preparing for future public‑cloud adoption.

The company implemented a hybrid cloud approach, moving development, testing, UAT and pre‑production for 17 key applications to Microsoft Azure while keeping production on private infrastructure. This eliminated 35 UAT servers, cut server-provisioning from weeks to hours, enabled remote testers, improved SDLC practices, reduced error rates by about 15%, and accelerated time‑to‑market and application quality.
