Financial services company Ibercaja aims to help farmers save millions of liters of water per year using Microsoft Azure and AI

Ibercaja, a Spanish banking group serving three million customers, wanted to strengthen relationships with rural clients and digitally transform services for farmers in its Northeast region. The challenge was to stay connected with remote agricultural customers, provide actionable field data, and diversify the bank’s offerings using cloud and AI technologies.

Working with partner Efor and using Microsoft Azure, Ibercaja deployed IoT sensor boxes that upload weather and soil data every 15 minutes to AI-driven analytics presented via a web portal. Farmers use the real-time insights to optimize watering, sowing and harvesting, cutting water and energy use, improving yields and compliance, and helping Ibercaja drive customer engagement, brand value and new data-driven financial services—saving millions of litres of water per year.
