Faster system deployment with SAP on Azure thyssenKrupp Steel Europe bids farewell to data centers

Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, part of Thyssenkrupp, needed to separate its SAP landscape from its parent company and gain more control, flexibility, and speed ahead of a planned joint venture, all under tight budget and time pressure. Its existing hosted setup made even routine changes slow, so the company turned to Microsoft Azure for a more modern infrastructure for its SAP systems.

Microsoft Azure supported the migration of 140 SAP systems from a partner data center to the cloud in just nine months. The move completed on schedule despite remote work during COVID-19, and Thyssenkrupp gained faster deployment times of one to two weeks instead of three months, better capacity planning, annual updates and quarterly patches, and lower operating costs—at about 70% of the previous hosting expense.
