EMC Redefines Disaster Recovery for Customers by Supporting Cloud-Based DR Orchestration

EMC, a global leader in data storage and cloud infrastructure, faced customers’ growing need to augment on‑premises datacenters with public cloud resources for disaster protection. Many customers struggled with complex, application‑level failover procedures and found it difficult to migrate or fail over entire sites without risking missed workloads or production disruption.

To address this, EMC supported Microsoft Azure Site Recovery (ASR) on its VNX and VMAX arrays, enabling policy‑driven, storage‑based replication and automated orchestration of whole‑site failover across mixed hypervisor environments. The solution simplified DR setup and testing, reduced human error and operational complexity, and accelerated customer adoption of hybrid cloud models—while preserving performance and security through options like Azure ExpressRoute.
