Case Study: Willis Towers Watson achieves greater agility and stronger security with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Willis Towers Watson Case Study

Embracing the public cloud for greater agility and security

Willis Towers Watson, a global advisory and insurance solutions firm with tens of thousands of employees, needed to unify geographically dispersed development teams and disparate toolsets introduced by a merger. The Risk Software and Technology Solutions group adopted a cloud-first strategy to improve agility, reduce provisioning delays and lower operational overhead while meeting strict security and regulatory requirements.

The company migrated development infrastructure and workflows to Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio Team Services, using Azure AD, ExpressRoute, VM/disk encryption and MFA, plus JSON templates for self-service provisioning. As a result, developers now self-provision environments in hours instead of weeks, 150 users manage projects in VSTS with 55 test and 20 production servers in Azure, and the organization has gained stronger security, clearer work-item tracking, cost savings, reduced risk of cross-contamination, and faster time-to-market.
