Driving digital transformation for in vitro diagnostic medical devices with IoT

Roche Diagnostics, a global leader in in vitro diagnostics (IVD), faced growing demand across China and needed a way to cost-effectively deliver high-quality post-sales services for its expensive diagnostic devices. The company sought remote monitoring of IVDs as fixed assets, predictive maintenance to prevent downtime, and usage-based insights to recommend the right solutions to customers — all aligned with China’s “Internet Plus” drive for cloud, big data and IoT adoption.

Working with partner Cleidon and Microsoft, Roche deployed Azure IoT solution accelerators and IoT Hub (with services such as HDInsight, Stream Analytics, Storage and Notification Hubs) to connect and manage devices, collect near‑real‑time operational data, and trigger alerts and workflows. The rollout enabled remote health monitoring, scheduled supply delivery, analytics and dashboards for better decisions, and a foundation for predictive maintenance — improving device availability, customer service, and operational efficiency.
