Dräger digitalizes and connects information exchange in clearance measurement process

Dräger, the Lübeck-based safety technology specialist, faced a high-stakes challenge: clearance measurements for tanks, shafts and other confined spaces were paper-based, slow and error-prone—yet the process tolerates zero mistakes because residual toxic gases, explosions or oxygen deficiency put workers’ lives at risk. Reducing travel, paperwork and waiting time while guaranteeing fully documented, reliable measurements was essential.

Dräger developed CSE Connect, a cloud-based SaaS solution on Microsoft Azure (using Azure App Service) that links the X-am 8000 multi-gas detector to smartphone and web apps via Bluetooth, enabling real-time transmission of measurement data to the clearance office and digital, remote double-checks. Customers report dramatic efficiency and safety gains—clearance times cut by roughly 50% and up to 65% in one case—resulting in fewer errors, shorter shutdowns and faster data-driven analysis.
