Dow uses vision AI at the edge to boost employee safety and security with Azure

DOW, through its Digital Operations Center, was looking to improve employee safety and security and move closer to zero safety-related incidents. To do that, the company needed a real-time way to detect possible containment leaks in its production environment, while also keeping the solution flexible, secure, and scalable. Microsoft Azure, including Azure Video Analyzer, was chosen as the cloud and AI platform.

Microsoft Azure helped DOW implement an edge-based vision AI and IoT solution that monitors facilities continuously, sends alerts through a custom app, and supports model training and retraining with Azure Machine Learning. The result was a faster deployment with lower latency, reduced bandwidth and cloud costs, and a design that can scale to thousands of deployments. DOW also extended the solution to other safety use cases such as PPE detection and gate monitoring, strengthening workplace safety overall.
