Case Study: JERA achieves full-cloud migration of mission-critical systems in six months with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the JERA Case Study

Domestic energy company JERA accomplishes full-cloud migration of mission-critical system in just half a year.

JERA, one of Japan’s largest power generators handling about 30% of domestic electricity and massive LNG volumes, faced fragmented, legacy IT from its parent companies that hindered data portability and its goal to become a data‑driven organization. With mission‑critical systems spread across different architectures and internal skepticism about the cloud, JERA needed to modernize core systems and change its operating culture to enable cross‑functional data use and faster decision‑making.

JERA built an integrated IT platform on Microsoft Azure and completed a full migration of SAP ERP and other core systems in just six months, driven by the mandate “We decide. We control. We create.” The project delivered rapid modernization, lower running costs, greater resource flexibility, stronger cross‑team collaboration (including staff Azure certifications), and a foundation for data democratization and future AI/IoT initiatives, while planning further migration of peripheral systems.
