Case Study: SERAKU Co.,Ltd achieves scalable, stable IoT agricultural monitoring with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the SERAKU Co.,Ltd Case Study

Digital transformation company supports Japan’s farmers with innovative IoT solution based on Azure

Seraku Co., Ltd., a Japanese digital-transformation and IT solutions company, created Midori Cloud to help an aging farming population (average farmer age 66.8 and a ~30% decline in agricultural workers over 10 years) adopt smart agriculture. Farmers struggled with complex, costly equipment and Midori’s image-heavy monitoring (about 3–5 GB per IoT device per month) overwhelmed the company’s private cloud and risked data loss.

Seraku moved Midori Cloud to Microsoft Azure, adopting PaaS with IoT Hub, Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Cosmos DB to handle streaming, reprocessing and high‑speed storage, and to enable over‑the‑air firmware updates. The solution delivered stable, scalable remote monitoring via Midori Box devices and the Midori Monitor app, reduced operational overhead to a two‑person team, prevented costly crop losses, established market leadership, and enabled expansion into nationwide livestock and other IoT services.
