Case Study: Plexure unlocks new retail opportunities with Microsoft Azure serverless technologies

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Plexure Case Study

Developer uses serverless cloud technology to unlock new retail opportunities

Plexure, an Auckland-based developer of in-store digital marketing technologies, helps retailers use analytics, IoT, machine learning, mobile apps, and digital displays to deliver real-time, personalized shopping experiences. Facing massive scale (some customers serve ~35 million consumers and handle up to 7,000 API requests per second) and frequent requests for bespoke platform customizations, Plexure needed a way to meet high-performance, low-latency demands while speeding delivery of customer-specific features.

Plexure implemented Azure serverless services—combining Azure Functions for compute and Azure Logic Apps for orchestration—to provide a customer-facing interface and microservice that deploys user-uploaded code into each customer’s Azure resource group. The approach cut customization turnaround from weeks to days, reduced engineering overhead and infrastructure costs, and unlocked new real-time marketing opportunities and agility for both Plexure and its retail customers.
