Anglian Water, which supplies water and water recycling services to more than six million customers, needed a secure and scalable way to manage the huge volumes of data generated by its smart metering programme. As it works toward rolling out smart metering across its region by 2030, the company turned to Microsoft Azure to help protect customer data and support advanced compute and analytics.

Microsoft Azure implemented Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory pipelines and Azure Databricks to build a more robust data platform for smart metering and network monitoring. The solution helped Anglian Water identify customer-side leaks, improve customer advice, and uncover reservoir behavior patterns with AI; the trial delivered an 11% reduction in household water demand in the trial areas, and Microsoft Azure became central to the company’s decision-making.
