A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Uniper SE, a major German energy provider and operator of critical national infrastructure, faced an unstable, fragmented IT landscape after its 2016 spin-off: an unreliable Hanover datacenter, dozens of systems and up to 150 SAP instances, and insufficient flexibility and scalability to meet fast-changing market and regulatory demands—risks made acute by the COVID-19 crisis.
Working with DXC Technology and Microsoft, Uniper migrated its SAP estate (and subsequently key ERP systems, identity/access management and Microsoft 365) to Microsoft Azure over a little more than two years. The move delivered higher availability, stronger security and faster response times—keeping trading and operational systems running smoothly during the pandemic—while enabling ongoing modernization, AI/ML exploration and improved regulatory agility.
