Construction Firm Reduces Backup and Recovery Costs by 80 Percent with Hybrid Cloud Storage

Walbridge, a Fortune 1000 construction firm based in Detroit with about 1,000 employees, faced rapidly growing storage needs driven by large project files, remote jobsite offices with limited connectivity, and a corporate goal to move most systems to the cloud. Buying more conventional storage was becoming prohibitively expensive, and Walbridge needed a cost-effective, portable way to protect and make critical data instantly available across sites.

Walbridge deployed a hybrid cloud storage solution using StorSimple integrated with Microsoft Azure, leveraging deduplication, thin provisioning, and tiering to cloud to manage growth. The change cut database restore times by more than 80% (from about two hours to under 20 minutes), brought file recovery down from days to minutes, halved backup/restore administration time, and reduced overall storage costs by roughly 60–80%, while eliminating tape and other legacy equipment.
