Cloud Solution Helps Fuel Retailers to Efficiently Manage Inventory Decisions

MyTankInfo (4th Right Technologies) is a small Kansas-based company that helps retail gas station owners monitor fuel levels and meet EPA compliance. Faced with proprietary gauge software, slow and error-prone data transfer, and customers with limited IT resources, the company needed a cost-effective, scalable way to deliver timely inventory visibility so retailers could make fast fuel-purchasing decisions in a volatile market.

MyTankInfo built a cloud solution on Microsoft Azure: a hardware device pushes tank-gauge data into Azure (Storage Queues, Worker Roles, SQL Database, Mobile Services), providing hourly updates, four-week averaging to predict runouts, and SMS/email alerts via Twilio and SendGrid. Deployed in five months, the system now supports ~200 gauges, eliminates costly customer infrastructure, delivers near-real-time visibility for better buying decisions, and provides high availability (about 99.95% uptime).
