A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Citrix, a global software company serving more than 400,000 organizations and 100 million users, faced a critical identity challenge as it moved more products to SaaS: customers encountered multiple sign-ins across Citrix sites and the legacy web identity system could not meet the availability, performance, or integration needs required for a modern, globally distributed SaaS platform.
Citrix built the Citrix Identity Platform (CIP), an OpenID Connect single-sign-on solution hosted as microservices on Azure Service Fabric and using Azure DocumentDB for durable, automatically indexed storage. Launched in 2016, CIP provided a unified identity across Citrix.com and Citrix Cloud, improved performance and DBA productivity, met stringent availability and latency targets for millions of users, and created a foundation for further product integration and cross-sell opportunities.
