Case Study: Cargill achieves agile, secure cloud development with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Cargill Case Study

Cargill builds a more fertile and secure platform for innovation in the public cloud

Cargill, a global leader in the food supply chain, was held back by time-consuming upgrades to on-premises Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server and the complexity of many custom process templates, making it hard to keep roughly 930 developers worldwide on current tools and slowing innovation.

With partner Northwest Cadence, Cargill migrated its five TFS collections to Visual Studio Team Services in Azure in six weeks, meeting strict security and audit requirements and preserving full project history. By standardizing on VSTS’s built-in templates and cloud services (Azure SQL, Active Directory, hosted build servers), developers gain always-up-to-date tools, built-in continuous integration and faster build/test/release cycles—reducing maintenance, accelerating time-to-market, and driving a broader cloud-first shift across the company.
