A Microsoft Azure Case Study
The Region of Peel, a municipal government in southern Ontario serving 1.3 million residents across Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon with about 5,000 employees, was operating an aging on‑premises email system (Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2003). Frequent outages, delays, security and usability issues hurt staff productivity and the government’s ability to serve citizens while consuming the bulk of IT’s operational effort.
Peel migrated to Microsoft Office 365—including Exchange Online, Azure Active Directory Premium and Skype for Business—together with multifactor authentication and a broader digital‑workplace strategy. The cloud platform delivered more reliable, secure and mobile access, centralized document management, and freed IT from routine operations, boosting employee productivity and improving public service delivery.
