BP, the global energy company, moved much of its IT to Microsoft Azure as part of a company-wide digital transformation and needed a better way to govern a fast-growing cloud environment while controlling access and spending. With 25% of applications in the cloud and 250 subscriptions to manage, BP struggled with a highly manual governance process and limited visibility into Azure usage and costs.

Microsoft Azure helped BP implement Azure Policy for consistent cloud governance and Azure Cost Management plus Azure Advisor for spending insights and optimization. As a result, BP reduced cloud costs by 40% even as usage nearly doubled, and it also cut infrastructure deployment times from six to eight weeks to just 24 hours.
