Arvato Financial Solutions, a large provider of payment-related BPO services, faced rising e-commerce fraud and the limits of traditional risk-management tools—with many online sellers targeted yet few using safeguards. To investigate real-time fraud recognition and develop new cloud-based BPO offerings, Arvato partnered with Microsoft and inovex to analyze massive transaction volumes and adapt quickly to evolving threats.

They built a lambda architecture on Microsoft Azure—using Event Hubs, HDInsight (Hadoop and Storm), Azure Machine Learning, and Power BI—to combine batch model training with real-time stream scoring and live monitoring. The solution improved fraud detection, enabled continuous model refinement, met SLA and scalability needs, and created a foundation for fast, international deployment of new cloud-based risk-management services.
