Bicycle Firm Moves Retail System to Cloud, Expects to Save $15,000 a Month in IT Costs

Trek Bicycle, a U.S.-based manufacturer and retailer of bicycles, wanted to better support its retailers while lowering the cost of running its Ascend retail management system. The company needed a more scalable, cloud-based approach to replace aging server hardware, rising data center expenses, and slow infrastructure upgrades, and it chose Microsoft Azure to help.

Microsoft Azure migrated Trek’s Ascend workloads to the cloud using IaaS first, with a path to PaaS later, helping reduce development and IT support costs while improving scalability. The move cut staging hosting costs by $5,000 per month, is expected to save $15,000 per month once production is fully migrated, and reduced server upgrade time from 2–6 weeks to just two hours.
