BD Develops Connected Health Vision, Envisions New Solutions with Strategic Consultation

Becton Dickinson (BD) is a global medical‑technology company with 45,000 associates in 50 countries. As the company grew through acquisitions, its complex on‑premises SAP training environment—20 TB of data running on 85 physical servers and a legacy Unix platform—became costly, slow to reconfigure and difficult to scale for realistic, secure training while meeting HIPAA and SOX requirements.

Partnering with Microsoft Services, BD migrated 25 major SAP systems to Azure, modernized to Windows 2012 and SQL 2012, and used Azure automation and familiar security tools while bringing vendors up to cloud certification. The cloud deployment (about 25 TB across 81 VMs) improved performance, cut an end‑to‑end refresh from six weeks with 16 people to three weeks with three people (target 2–4 days), reduced operational cost and complexity, freed staff for higher‑value work, and paved the way for industry adoption.
