A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), a major New Zealand bank founded in 1861 with over 5,000 employees, faced aging on‑premises infrastructure running staff‑assisted .NET applications on end‑of‑life Windows 2008. To deliver faster, more reliable service and reduce risk and costs, BNZ set out to modernize its application platform and move to the cloud.
BNZ moved key staff‑assisted apps to Microsoft Azure using a PaaS approach, Azure AD, Application Insights, and Azure DevOps, consolidating tools and automating CI/CD. The migration delivered automated failover (cutting manual recovery from ~30 minutes to zero), reduced database deployment from 2 hours to 5 minutes, improved security and monitoring, and enabled dynamic scaling—accelerating ongoing modernization and reuse across projects.
