A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Throwback Entertainment Case Study

Azure platform supports Red Hat Linux for popular and profitable cloud gaming

Throwback Entertainment, a small Canadian developer and publisher with a long history of successful titles, set out to modernize and relaunch the 1998 classic Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls. The challenge was to resurrect the game for today’s players by adding HD graphics, group play, and a modern, scalable back-end while preserving the original gameplay that fans loved.

Throwback rebuilt the game using Red Hat Linux on Microsoft Azure, hosting Docker containers orchestrated with Kubernetes to deliver a flexible, always‑on infrastructure with close Red Hat support. The relaunch delivered 8‑player group matches, enhanced visuals, and a secure, stable, scalable back end—resulting in a successful, profitable release appealing to players of all ages.
