Achieving IT efficiency through automated data analysis

JR East Information Systems Company (JEIS) develops and operates mission‑critical IT systems for the East Japan Railway Group. Faced with rapidly growing tablet usage and increasing cloud/on‑premises complexity, JEIS relied on a manual, monthly process to extract IIS logs into Excel for cleansing, analysis and reporting—a task that took about three workdays and limited visibility into errors, usage patterns and security incidents.

JEIS automated collection and analysis by combining Microsoft Azure, OMS, Application Insights, HockeyApp and Power BI to gather server, web and mobile telemetry and deliver dashboards to tablets. Report generation went from three days to minutes, crash causes (for example, OS‑version mismatches) and unauthorized access are detected and alerted automatically, and richer usage analytics now inform planning and reduce operational costs.
