A Microsoft Azure Case Study

A secure virtual reception solution powered by Skype for Business

SOFTEL Communications Inc. is a systems integrator and software developer that helps organizations get more value from enterprise communications—particularly Skype for Business and Microsoft server technologies. Facing clients’ needs for unattended reception, secure telemedicine authentication, and better ways to monitor and serve an aging population, SOFTEL sought to close gaps in customer interaction, security, and remote health monitoring.

SOFTEL built Sofia, a Skype for Business–powered virtual receptionist kiosk with integrated voice and facial biometric authentication, telemedicine features, and IoT-ready workflows for wearable health data. Deployed on Microsoft platforms and offered as a multitenant Azure solution, Sofia has reduced front-desk staffing needs, improved specialist productivity and sales conversion, enabled secure provider collaboration for clinical trials and telemedicine pilots, and created a foundation for proactive elder care and pay‑per‑use cloud delivery.
