Case Study: ZF OPENMATICS achieves scalable asset tracking with Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics

A Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics Case Study

Preview of the ZF OPENMATICS Case Study

ZF uses the cloud to keep track of vehicles and containers

ZF OPENMATICS, a subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, wanted to bring a new asset tracking solution to market that could track not only the location of vehicles and containers, but also their status. To avoid building and maintaining a large IT infrastructure while still ensuring scalability and stability, the company turned to Microsoft Azure, using services including Azure IoT Hub, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Stream Analytics, and Azure Service Bus.

Microsoft Azure enabled ZF OPENMATICS to build the cloud-based deTAGtive platform, which collects Bluetooth TAG data, evaluates it in the cloud, and integrates with third-party systems such as SAP. The solution improved quality checks, route optimization, and status monitoring, with around 20,000 TAGs registered on the system; ZF OPENMATICS also reported that the infrastructure investment paid off within three months.
