thyssenkrupp lays the foundation for intelligent buildings with digital twin technology

thyssenkrupp Elevator, a global leader in elevator technology, wanted to make buildings smarter and easier to operate by using IoT data, AI, and digital twin technology to improve facilities management, tenant experience, and energy use at its Innovation Test Tower in Rottweil, Germany. To support this vision, the company worked with Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics and partner Willow, using Azure services such as Azure Digital Twins, Azure Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Time Series Insights.

Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics helped power Willow Twin, a digital replica of the tower that ingests and analyzes live building data from elevators, lighting, HVAC, occupancy, and other systems. The solution gave managers real-time dashboards, 3D asset views, and actionable insights that improved maintenance and space utilization, cut utilities and cleaning costs, and helped reduce elevator downtime by half through thyssenkrupp’s MAX predictive maintenance solution.
