PCL Construction, a large Canadian construction company, wanted to modernize an industry known for low productivity, schedule overruns, and manual job-site checks. Using Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics as part of its broader Azure IoT strategy, PCL set out to gain real-time visibility into construction sites, improve safety, and make better data-driven decisions.

Microsoft Azure helped PCL build its mobile-ready Job Site Insights™ platform, which ingests IoT sensor data, applies near-real-time business rules, and sends exceptions for downstream processing and alerts. The result was faster issue detection, improved worker safety and productivity, reduced manual inspections, and lower costs—cutting hardware from more than 1,200 servers to half a rack and saving CAD 2.5 million annually in storage and server costs, while also targeting 10 to 20 percent energy-cost savings through optimization.
