International world trade centre gains control of costly assets with cloud-based IoT

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), one of the Middle East’s largest event venues, needed a better way to track and manage more than 7,000 high-value audio, video, and lighting assets used across back-to-back events. Manual processes made it difficult to know where equipment was, whether it was returned on time, or how to allocate inventory efficiently. DWTC turned to Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics and the broader Azure IoT platform, including Azure IoT Hub and Power BI, to modernize asset tracking.

Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics helped power a cloud-based IoT solution that connected sensors, gateways, ibeacon tags, and DWTC’s ERP system for real-time visibility into equipment location and usage. The result was automated end-to-end tracking, fewer manual entry tasks, better invoicing accuracy, improved inventory and planning decisions, and faster responses when assets moved to unauthorized locations. DWTC also gained actionable dashboards and heat maps in Power BI, enabling more efficient resource allocation and stronger control over costly equipment.
