A Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics Case Study

Preview of the Kolibri Games Case Study

Gaming studio learns what players want and delivers quickly with the cloud

Kolibri Games, a Berlin-based mobile gaming studio, wanted to stay highly player-oriented while scaling *Idle Miner Tycoon* quickly. As millions of players began requesting features like leaderboards and cloud saves, the team needed a way to add back-end capabilities and analyze player behavior without hiring a large infrastructure and engineering staff. They used Microsoft Azure alongside PlayFab to support rapid game development and back-end needs.

Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics helped Kolibri Games build a real-time analytics pipeline with Azure Event Hubs, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Analytics to process player events and generate insights. The company now processes about 1 billion events per month, uses the data for KPI tracking and A/B testing, and can improve games at a faster cadence while avoiding the estimated cost of hiring 5 to 10 back-end engineers.
