Axpo, Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy, wanted to use real-time data to improve maintenance and efficiency across its hydroelectric power plants. To solve this, it worked with Microsoft Azure using services such as Azure IoT Edge, Azure IoT Hub, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure SQL Database serverless, and Azure Machine Learning to connect plant data and turn it into actionable insights.

With Microsoft Azure, Axpo built an IoT analytics solution that ingests more than 20 million measurements per day and gives teams a real-time view of equipment condition and performance. The result is better-informed, condition-based maintenance, less downtime, improved turbine efficiency, and more sustainable energy production, with the solution scaling from three plants to a broader rollout across Axpo’s hydro network.
