East West Bank builds a modern platform on Azure to win new mobile customers

East West Bank, a fast-growing California-based commercial bank, needed to build a modern mobile-first digital banking platform from scratch to reach new customers in the United States and China. To support real-time banking, strong security, and seamless integration with its on-premises core systems, the bank turned to Microsoft Azure, including Azure Stream Analytics, as part of a cloud-native architecture.

Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics helped power East West Bank’s real-time transaction pipeline by processing events from Azure Event Hubs and routing them through Azure Functions into Azure Cosmos DB or Azure SQL Database based on business rules. The solution enabled fast onboarding, fraud protection, scalable services, and disaster recovery across Azure regions, with the bank reporting sub-20 millisecond transaction goals, 99.99% availability, and DR delivered in half the time at about one-tenth the cost of doing it in-house.
