Driving digital transformation for in vitro diagnostic medical devices with IoT

Roche Diagnostics, working in China’s pharmaceuticals market, needed a better way to remotely monitor and manage its in vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices, improve uptime through predictive maintenance, and recommend the right solutions based on actual usage. To address these challenges, the company turned to Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics and the broader Azure IoT stack, including Azure IoT Hub and Azure IoT solution accelerators.

Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics helped Roche Diagnostics and its partner Cleidon build an IoT platform to connect devices, ingest operational data in near real time, monitor device health, trigger alerts, and support supply planning and future predictive maintenance. The solution improved fixed-asset visibility, supply provisioning, and analytics-driven decision making, creating a foundation for better service and higher customer satisfaction, though the case study does not cite specific numeric results.
