Case Study: Elektrobit Automotive GmbH manages autonomous driving data at scale with Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics

Autonomous driving: Petabytes constantly under control

Elektrobit Automotive GmbH, a subsidiary of Continental AG, needed a scalable way to handle the massive volumes of sensor data generated by autonomous-driving test vehicles—often 1–2 GB per second per vehicle, adding up to at least 10 TB per day. The company turned to Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics as part of a broader Azure-based environment to bring structure to its development process and replace hard-to-manage local tools and storage.

Using Microsoft Azure, Elektrobit built the cloud-based EB Assist Test Lab to ingest, process, enrich, and retrieve test data through browser and mobile access, plug-ins, APIs, and multiple upload channels. The solution lets customers reserve hundreds of Azure compute nodes and GPU-based nodes as needed, while improving collaboration and security through Azure Active Directory and customer-controlled deployments. Elektrobit reported tool-cost savings in the very high double-digit percentage range, along with major reductions in compute, storage, and operations costs.
