Royal Holloway University saves £50,000 a year with Microshare

Royal Holloway University needed to rationalize its 135-acre campus to better serve its students and staff in a hybrid world. The challenge was to identify underutilized and inefficient real estate assets to inform a three-year expansion and reconfiguration plan. They partnered with Microshare, using its EverSmart Space solution to gather empirical data on building usage and costs.

Microshare deployed 350 occupancy sensors across the campus to provide real-time data on space utilization. This data allowed the university to identify a specific 600m² classroom building that was chronically underused and costly. The analysis justified its demolition, projecting annual savings of £50,000 and a full payback of all costs in under three years, enabling future expansion plans.
