The Last Frontier State Streamlines Regulatory Oversight With STAR Financial

The Alaska Division of Banking and Securities, a 23‑person agency responsible for licensing, examination and enforcement across a state twice the size of Texas with many remote communities, faced pressure to streamline regulatory oversight and reduce reliance on spreadsheets and disparate systems after 2014 budget cuts. In response, MicroPact proposed its STAR Financial commercial off‑the‑shelf (COTS) case management solution to consolidate multiple legacy systems and improve statewide access.

MicroPact implemented STAR Financial (go‑live November 2015) on the Amazon Web Services Workspace platform, consolidating licensing, registration, exam scheduling, complaints, investigations and more into a single system with automated interfaces to NMLS and planned BlueExpress and FDIC integrations. The deployment replaced several separate systems, gave authorized staff in Anchorage and Juneau one source of data across the 800+ mile distance, reduced spreadsheet dependence, and established a foundation for a future public portal — delivering reliable, configurable functionality without extensive custom development.
