Easing the Conservation Easement Oversight Process on an Enterprise Scale

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), through its Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), faced a congressional and internal mandate to centralize conservation easement records and rapidly adapt to changing Farm Bill requirements across 50 states and two regions. To meet this need, NRCS selected MicroPact and its entellitrak® case management and BPM platform to build the Nation Easement Staging Tool (NEST) as a single, enterprise repository for easement applications, enrollment and monitoring.

MicroPact used entellitrak and an agile, rules-driven approach to deliver NEST in short sprints, hosting the solution in a private USDA cloud and re-architecting it to meet 2014 Farm Bill changes within months. The NEST system has documented roughly 31,000 applications and supported the conservation of nearly 4.3 million acres, while simplifying data collection and giving NRCS national-level access to state and regional casefiles.
