Community health centers find practical, powerful capabilities with MicroMD EMR

Community Partners HealthNet, a network of 43 medical and dental clinics with 105 physicians, mid-level providers and dentists, faced the challenge of acquiring an affordable, scalable EMR and shared IT expertise so smaller community health centers could benefit from electronic records. After a six-month review they selected MicroMD EMR (from Henry Schein Medical Systems) for its intuitive interface and Microsoft Windows, client-server SQL architecture that supported group purchasing and lower per-provider costs.

Using an ASP model, Community Partners HealthNet hosts MicroMD EMR centrally, with three IT staff managing a data warehouse and secure Citrix VPN access for member clinics. MicroMD EMR produced measurable results: initial per-provider cost was less than half the estimated national average, clinicians largely prefer exam-room chart access, medication interaction alerts improved safety, patients engage with on-screen graphs, and clinical tracking/reporting (for example, diabetic control by race) is now possible without manual chart pulls.
