Managing Supply Chain Complexity to Drive Fuel Savings & Accident Reduction With Fleet & Vehicle Telematics

Hovis, an iconic UK bakery operating eight bakeries, a flourmill and three distribution centres with roughly 400 vehicles and around 1.2 million customer deliveries a year, faced the challenge of managing a massive, 365‑day supply chain across major towns and cities. To improve fleet safety, utilisation and delivery performance they selected the Microlise connected telematics solution in 2015 to give real‑time telemetry and data tools across their fleet.

Microlise implemented telematics including Journey Management with a Schedule Execution Board, a Safety Module with forward‑facing cameras and Incident Analysis, Driver Performance monitoring and sign‑on‑glass Proof of Delivery. Since deployment Hovis reports a 62% reduction in accidents, 95% of drivers in the top A‑C performance band and 95–98% on‑time delivery performance, alongside improved fleet visibility, utilisation and customer communication.
