A MICHELIN Connected Fleet Case Study
Smith Construction Group, which includes the skip hire arm Smith Recycling, operates a 60-strong heavy-duty vehicle fleet and needed better visibility, security and control to give customers accurate arrival times, reduce idling and cut fuel costs. To meet these challenges the company adopted MICHELIN Connected Fleet’s telematics solution for vehicle tracking, driver behaviour monitoring and CAN-bus‑level MPG and fuel readings.
MICHELIN Connected Fleet’s system delivered 100% accurate mileage and fuel data, real‑time job and arrival updates, and audit trails for disputes; over four years Smith Construction Group recorded an 87% reduction in idling and an estimated 15% cut to its annual fuel bill. The telematics also improved vehicle utilisation, supported insurance claims with location evidence, reduced wasted journeys and helped lower emissions through more direct routing.
