A Michelin Case Study

Preview of the Nevada DOT Case Study

Nevada DOT analyzes 6.4 billion trip points to improve VRU safety with Michelin

The Nevada DOT faced the challenge of addressing historic safety risks for vulnerable road users (VRUs) in high-traffic zones across the state. They needed to identify where safety interventions would have the biggest impact but struggled with sourcing the necessary data to complete their assessment. To tackle this, they partnered with Michelin and utilized its Safer Roads analysis service.

Michelin integrated the DOT's crash data with billions of data points from driving behavior to create a clear map of VRU risk hotspots across Nevada. The solution provided detailed analysis of 10 focus areas, identifying specific high-risk locations and contributing factors like speeding. As a result, the Nevada DOT gained the objective data needed to efficiently allocate safety funding, justify investments, and recommend targeted mitigations.
